How Not
to Gamble.

Treating winnings as money that doesn’t count.

Money you can withdraw is money you can keep. Losing it is a real cost.

A hundred dollars you won can feel easier to bet than a hundred dollars from your paycheck. You might still be ahead of your first deposit even after losing it.

But once the money is yours to withdraw, it can pay for the same things as any other hundred dollars. Continuing means spending some of what you could keep.

A payout isn’t the same as a profit.

If a $10 ticket pays out $18 including the original stake, the profit is $8. The full $18 is not new money you made.

That difference is easy to miss when an app makes payouts more noticeable than the stakes and losing tickets around them.
